[ARCHIVED] Cops For Kids with Cancer Donates $5000. to Lawrence Family

Chief Roy Vasque and Sgt Sandy Picard joined Mike Drummy of the Massachusetts State Police and Cops for Kids with Cancer  to present a $ 5000 donations to Saul Polanco  an active and charming 6-year-old boy who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in May 218.

Note: Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) is the most common childhood cancer. Is a type of cancer of the blood and bone marrow – the spongy tissue bones where blood cells are made. This disease progress rapidly and creates immature blood cells rather than mature ones.

Saul has had surgery and intensive chemotherapy. He will continue to receive treatment at Massachusetts General Hospital for Children, Hematology/Oncology Unit in Boston for over the next 3 years.

Saul lives at home with his mother, Ampari Cabrera and 11-year-old sister, Ashley Cabrera. Prior to Saul’s diagnosis, his mom was employed in a preschool/day care center as a teacher’s assistant. Due to Saul’s very intense treatment she had to take an unpaid leave of absence from her job to take care of him as she does not have anyone who could care for him. She has not been able to return to work but hopes she will be soon when Saul should be able to return to school on a more consistent basis. Saul’s father sees him but has been unable to offer any consistent financial support.

The family struggles to meet the usual expenses a family incurs. She is behind on the rent and utilities and her landlord has been understanding but she recognizes that he also has financial responsibilities and recognizes that his patience in waiting to be paid will only diminish in time. Ampari is understandably anxious about her financial obligations and responsibilities to keep her children safe and cared for.

Ms. Cabrera and her children are very appreciative and grateful for the help and support from Cops for Kids with Cancer.

Cops for Kids with Cancer is dedicated to improving the quality of lives of children with cancer and their family.
