Mayor Daniel Rivera, the City of Lawrence, in partnership with the Merrimack Valley Regional Transit Authority announced, beginning today, bus fares on three MVRTA routes in downtown and throughout Lawrence will be free; Route 34 (Prospect Hill); Route 37 (Beacon Street); Route 85 (Lawrence Downtown Shuttle). The city will be paying for Lawrence riders to ride for two years, totaling $225K. This will be paid for through free cash reserves.

The City of Lawrence free bus routes will maximize access to public transportation for Lawrence residents who most need it and otherwise would not have the means to get to and from work, doctor appointments and daily activities. This investment in free public transportation increases mobility and establishes the ability of Lawrence residents to access every part of our city regardless of income level, race, background or address. “The free bus routes will help single moms get to and from work, they will help our elderly get to and from appointments and help our youth get to school and work,” said Mayor Dan Rivera. “I want to thank City Council President Kendrys Vasquez and the other councilors for their support in this effort.”

Starting today, September 9, 2019, the MVRTA will be providing transportation FREE OF CHARGE on the following routes:

• Route 34 (Prospect Hill)
• Route 37 (Beacon Street)
• Route 85 (Lawrence Downtown Shuttle)
