Mayor Daniel Rivera, with Police Chief Roy Vasque, announce face covering order enforcement patrols to begin Friday, May 15th in public spaces and businesses across the city. Following an executive order signed by Mayor Dan Rivera and the Lawrence Board of Health on April 28th, the Lawrence Police Department has been conducting educational enforcement of the face covering order. Now, following that two-week educational period, the Lawrence Police Department will begin enforcement patrols this Friday. Individuals found to be in violation of the Executive Order by not wearing a face covering or mask will be subject to a $300 fine. “Lawrence is a hotspot for Coronavirus cases, 7th in the State for total people infected and 5th per-capita,” said Mayor Dan Rivera. “In order to stop the spread and keep everyone safe, you need to wear a face covering or mask whenever you are out in public. We have been informing residents and the public for weeks now that you must wear a mask or face covering in Lawrence. This is a serious matter. Not since the Civil War have we had this level of crisis across our nation. So, starting Friday, our police officers will be conducting enforcement patrols regularly. If you are not wearing a mask or face covering, you could be fined $300.”
Any individuals or organizations who are interested in donating masks for police to hand out during educational enforcement patrols can drop masks off at The Center, 155 Haverhill Street, Lawrence, MA or by calling The Center at 978-620-3542.
