Early Tuesday afternoon, as Lawrence Police Officers Shaun Gravel and Preston Carmichael were completing an accident investigation, a passerby directed their attention to a male walking down the street with blood on his hands. Upon further investigation, it was determined that the male had been stabbed several times. He stated that he had been stabbed by his roommate. As Officers provided medical attention to the male, they located a loaded firearm in his possession. Lawrence General Hospital EMT's and Paramedics arrived on scene and transported the male by ambulance to that facility. As the incident was unfolding, a second male arrived at the Police Station claiming to have been assaulted by his roommate, and threatened with a firearm. Shortly thereafter, it was determined that the male found on the street, Mike Delia age 34, and the male who came to the Police Station, Eddy Feliz-Cabreja age 21, both shared an apartment on Center Street. The investigation determined that the two had a physical altercation over burnt food. According to Feliz-Cabreja, he stabbed Delia in self defense, as he was being "punched and grabbed by the throat," as well as being threatened with a firearm.
Delia was arraigned today in his hospital bed at Lawrence General Hospital, as he was charged with unlicensed possession of a firearm and other firearms related charges.
Feliz-Cabreja was arraigned today in Lawrence District Court, as he was charged with Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon.
